The evolution of kitchen appliances- Kitchen Technology or laziness?

 Kitchen technology or laziness?.

I am sure our mother's generation will not agree. But I made New Year's Pounded Yam for the entire family with my Food Processor and it only took me 20 minutes for the entire grinding process. To be honest, I prefer the machined one to the pounded one our neighbour brought for us in the mood of celebration. My father and one of his staff that are so traditional in believes didn't even have any reasons to complain as the machine made the meal so perfectly. I am sure they waited to mess me up with words. I even heard him discussing with one of his best friends about machined pounded yam. But the aim was met. We all celebrated New Year's day with a beautiful meal made by yours truly, me and my kitchen appliance. I personally enjoyed every bit of the pounded yam with egusi soup and chicken. And made sure I served everybody their meal with a good bottle of wine.

I remember when my daughter was about four months, I was super craving shawarma but my favourite spot is quite far and no one to help with the errands. Then I remembered I haven't even tried my Grilling machine or the Oven yet after all the craze to get one. So I made up my mind to use those appliances that very day. I made six adult sized shawarma with a budget less than three thousand naira, about seven dollars then given that I had majority of the sauce mixtures at home

My favourite shawarma is a mixture of grilled chicken and beef. My guts tells me it's corned beef my favourite sharwama Chef uses as his sharwama meat source. I always love the tenderness of the beef and how the taste of it doesn't over power the chicken flavour. And I think corned beef takes a lot of stress away when making large quantities. So, I went online to find out how to make the sauce to use with the fillings. I discovered you needed basically mayonnaise, ketchup and pepper. That wasn't a problem, two of these things are must have in fridge decorating accessories if you know what I mean and what Nigerian doesn't have pepper in their kitchen, smiles. So, I grilled my chicken, got my shawarma bread from a nearby super market. I made the best and crunchiest Beef and Chicken Shawarma that day with the help of my oven and grilling machine and with a whole lots of love. And that was check on my to-cook list.

Early 2019 was when I noticed all these craze for some kitchen electronics most especially the Food Processor and the Air Fryer. It was as if I was the only woman in this wide world that doesn't have those two in her kitchen. I started looking for best deals on those products. I became an addict follower kitchen appliances vendors on Instagram. I just couldn't wait to get mine and make videos of my meal prep with any of these kitchen appliances especially making Pounded Yam with my Food Processor. You know I'm quite a fan of Food Network. I have seen Chefs use the Food Processor a lot of times in their meals preps but I didn't know what it was until the craze began, smiles. But I assumed it would be quite expensive and funny enough it's affordable. Thank God I got one eventually.

Year 2020, it was all about Nutribullet blender and Waffles making machine and the craze continued. I didn't bother getting the Nutribullet blender because I already have similar alternatives. And I can't just keep getting on the wagon of craze for kitchen appliances when the world says go. Some of the appliances and kitchen items I got I hardly use while some I have touched, smiles. But I learnt the difference between fake non stick pots and China ones. I almost became an impulsive kitchen appliances shopper. But I had to sit myself down and say; Hey Kemi, it's better you stop now'.

Nowadays, if you do not have an inbuilt Microwave and Oven set in your kitchen it's like you are not it. Everyone wants the side by side refrigerator with glass front all installed along side their microwave and oven in their kitchen cabinet. Some brands are so last 2 years, some brands are now the in thing. The craze keeps expanding. Brand or no brands, it all serves the same purposes and I am not a food chef or vendor so, it doesn't matter.

Year 2021, Instant cooker kitchen appliance was what people got so drawn to. How you can cook beans in fifteen minute, stews in five minutes, smiles. Wasn't that what pressure cooker was for before now. And brands places a very important role in all of these things. Some brands are so much expensive than the other. Then there is these set of non stick pot all Instagram Food chefs were showcasing. I thank God for the talk I had with myself 2020. I cannot come and kill myself. Thank God for gas and induction cooker. Haha, only God knows what 2022 has in store for us in kitchen appliances world.

MY CUTE LITTLE FLOWER VASES

So, I mostly pass by this particular building along Salvation road at Opebi in Ikeja. Most times I am always rushing to catch up with one meeting or one appointment or another. I noticed this entire building unlike others is occupied by Interior decorating product dealer or should I say sellers. There is this store at the ground floor of the building I kept seeing this two wonderful white and black colour flower vases (pair) with a single stick of an artificial fushial pink rose flower on each displaying from the show-window of this particular shop. I kept admiring it from afar. One larger size and the other smaller piece. So yesterday I decided to visit the store. I walked a very very long distance from where I was all because I wanted to see these vases. My dears they were even more beautiful seeing them closely. I met with the owner of the store, she is a professional interior decorator just like myself. She is an adorable senior friend. I priced the vases and I wondered why...
